Medical Bill Tips
If you feel lost in the medical-billing maze, here are a few more pieces of advice that can help you find your way.
- Don’t just ignore bills. If you are having trouble paying them, contact your health-care provider as soon as possible to work out a payment plan. A provider may refuse to treat you if you have an out-standing bill.
- Keep all of your medical bills organized in a file or organizer. It may help to separate summary bills, explanations of benefits (EOBs), and final bills. Make sure to keep a record of when you have paid each bill.
- If you don’t understand a bill or EOB, seek an explanation. You can speak to the billing office or call your insurance company. The Web sites in this resources list may also be of help.
